Thy Kinswoman Part 3 - Women's Weekly Bible Challenge

Hello and welcome to the Women’s Weekly Bible Challenge! I’m Lisa Ann Spencer.  Thanks for stopping by.  This week we are beginning part 3 of our study on Thy Kinswoman.

Review:  Last week we concluded that “my sister, my spouse” in the Song of Solomon is the same person as Wisdom, Thy Kinswoman.  She offers Israel protection from the deception and seduction of The Strange Woman and her false doctrine.  We uncovered a secret about an harlot; she is not scantily dressed, but covered to conceal her true identity.

Today we will dive in to 16 particular verses from 3 passages in the book of Proverbs, where Wisdom is speaking.

📔You might like to write these down in your journal.

I encourage you once again to read these passages.  Better yet, read Proverbs chapter 1-9 in one sitting so you can see the contrast between Wisdom and the Strange Woman.

By comparing scripture with scripture, we will prove that Wisdom and Jesus speak the same words.

Let’s dig in!

#1  Proverbs 1:23 Wisdom says, “I will pour out my spirit unto you; I will make known my words unto you.”

Let’s compare that to Isaiah 44:1-3, a future prophecy regarding Israel,

“… I will pour my spirit upon thy seed…”

And

Ezekiel 39:29, also a future prophecy regarding Israel,

“… I have poured out my spirit upon the house of Israel…”

And

Joel 2:28-29 compared to Acts 2:17-18 “And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh;…”

The “all flesh” spoken here is not all humanity.  We know that because both passages in context are addressed to believing ISRAEL.

#2 Proverbs 1:24 Because I have called, and ye refused; I have stretched out my hand, and no man regarded;”

Wisdom is speaking what we also see spoken to Israel in Isaiah 65:2  I have spread out my hands all the day unto a rebellious people, Which walketh in a way that was not good, after their own thoughts;

Paul quotes this in Romans 10:21 But to Israel he saith, All day long I have stretched forth my hands unto a disobedient and gainsaying people.

#3 Proverbs 1:25 but ye have set at nought all my counsel, and would none of my reproof:

The ‘ye’ in context is unbelieving Israel.

We see a similar passage in Luke 7:30 “But the Pharisees and lawyers rejected the counsel of God against themselves,…”

#4 Proverbs 1:26 “I also will laugh at your calamity;…”

Let’s compare that with Psalms.

Psalm 2:4 “He that sitteth in the heavens shall laugh:…”

Psalm 37:13 The Lord shall laugh at him: For seeth that his day is coming.

#5 In this next comparison, we see two contrasting speeches that Wisdom makes. In Proverbs 1:28, she says those who have rejected her will,  “…seek her early…” when they are in trouble.

Proverbs 8:17, she says those that love me will “…seek me early…”.

We can see Israel fulfilling both scenarios by comparing these scriptures:

Psalm 63:1 O God, thou art my God; early will I seek thee:…”

Hosea 5:15 I will go and return to my place, Till they acknowledge their offence, and seek my face: In their affliction they will seek me early.

#6 Proverbs 1:33 “But whoso hearkeneth unto me shall dwell safely…”

Compare that with the first mention of dwelling in safety in Leviticus 25:18 Wherefore ye shall do my statutes, and keep my judgments, and do them; and ye shall dwell in the land in safety.

And Jeremiah 32:37 “…I will cause them to dwell safely:”

#7 Proverbs 8:8 All the words of my mouth are in righteousness; There is nothing froward or perverse in them.

Compare that with Isaiah 45:23 “I have sworn by myself, the word is gone out of my mouth in righteousness,…”

#8  Proverbs 8:9 “They [The words] are all plain to him that understandeth,…”

And Jesus says the same thing.

John 16:25 “These things have I spoken to you in proverbs: but I shall shew you plainly of the Father.  26 …now speakest thou plainly,…”

And the apostle Paul, who writes to us the words of our Lord Jesus Christ (1 Timothy 6:3) says this:

2 Corinthians 3:12 Seeing then that we have such hope, we use great plainness of speech:

#9 Proverbs 8:10 Receive my instruction, and not silver; and knowledge rather than choice gold.

We compare this to Jeremiah 35:13 Will ye not receive instruction to hearken to my words? Saith the LORD.

#10 Proverbs 8:13 …pride, and arrogancy, and the evil way, and the froward mouth, do I hate.

There are things and people that God hates.

Psalm 11:5 The LORD trieth the righteous: but the wicked and him that loveth violence his soul hateth.

#11 Proverbs 8:20 I lead in the way of righteousness, in the midst of the paths of judgment:

And we see the same in this very familiar Psalm.

Psalm 23:3 He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake.

#12 Proverbs 8:22 The LORD possessed me in the beginning of his way, before his works of old. 23 I was set up from everlasting, from the beginning, or ever the earth was… 25 Before the mountains were settled, before the hills was I brought forth:

Compare Wisdom’s speech 👆 with Psalm 90:2 Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever thou hadst formed the earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting, thou art God.

#13 Proverbs 8:30 then I was by him, as one brought up with him: and I was daily his delight,

Being 'brought up with him', we see a hint that Wisdom is God's KINSWOMAN; or a SISTER, SPOUSE.  Being everlasting, makes her equal to him.

#14 Proverbs 8:35 For whoso findeth me findeth life, and shall obtain favour of the LORD.

By comparing that verse ☝ with this verse, 👇we see another hint to Wisdom being a SPOUSE.

Proverbs 18:22 Whoso findeth a wife findeth a good thing, and obtaineth favour of the LORD.

#15 Proverbs 9:5 Come, eat of my bread,  and drink of the wine which I have mingled.

And Jesus says in Matthew 26:26-28 “Take, eat; this is my body.  27 Drink ye all of it; 28 for this is my blood of the new testament…” ( See also John 6:53-56)

#16 Proverbs 9:11 For by me thy days shall be multiplied, and the years of thy life shall be increased.

Deuteronomy 11:20 And thou shalt write them [my words] upon the door posts of thine house, and upon thy gates: 21 that your days may be multiplied,…”

Please take the time to read Deuteronomy 11:22-25 and compare it with Proverbs 7:1-5, and you will see that we have come full circle from lesson 1 of our study!

I hope I have shown you clearly from scripture that Wisdom speaks the same words that the LORD Jesus Christ speaks.  And Jesus is called ‘the Word of God’.  Jesus and his words are ONE, just like thy Kinswoman who is a Sister, a Spouse.

John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.

Next week, we will talk about GENDER in the Bible.  LINK TO THY KINSWOMAN, PART 4

Women Bible Teachers - Part 1

Welcome to the Women’s Weekly Bible Challenge! I’m Lisa Ann Spencer.  This week we’re beginning a new series, Everything the Bible has to say about WOMEN TEACHING . Part One Let’s search the Scriptures like the Bereans in Acts 17:11.   This is so easy to do today with access to digital concordances at our fingertips. I use www.biblegateway.com and www.BlueLetterBible.org .   For example, using both of these concordances, I looked up the word TEACH . “Teach” is found 170 times in Bible Gateway , including all forms such as: teaching, teacher, teachers, teachest, and teacheth. BlueLetterBible catches only the word “teach” 109 times in 108 verses. I also looked up the following related words: Taught Instruct ; including instructs, instructor, instruction, instructions, instructed, Learn; including learned and learning. I combined each of those words with each of the following words: Her, She, Woman, Women, Mother, Daughter, Wife, Wives, Sister and Maid. The

When God Speaks to Women - Part 3

Hello and welcome back to the Women’s Weekly Bible Challenge!   I’m Lisa Ann Spencer.  Today we will be diving into Part 3 of our series, When God Speaks to Women . Last week we spent most of our lesson taking a close look at those first conversations that took place between Eve and Satan, and between Eve and God.   Today, we will look at a few New Testament references to Eve before we move on to the next woman that God speaks to as recorded in Scripture. Our search results for Eve from last week were: Genesis 3:20 Genesis 4:1 2 Corinthians 11:3 1 Timothy 2:13 We already looked at Genesis 3 and 4 last week. So let’s begin today by taking a closer look at 2 Corinthians 11:3 But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtilty, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ. I point out again, that one of the purposes for God preserving His word is for our learning today.   (Check out these two references: Romans 15

HEADCOVERINGS - 1 Corinthians 11

Hello and welcome to the Women's Weekly Bible Challenge! I'm Lisa Ann Spencer.  Let's talk about HEADCOVERINGS as an issue that pertains to women in the Bible.  I'll begin by giving an overview of the first 10 chapters of 1 Corinthians, because context is king!  It is a mistake to approach a chapter of the Bible to interpret it without a thorough knowledge of what comes before and after it.  This is a complex passage and this will be a lengthy blog.  Grab your favorite cuppa and let's dig into God’s word. COMMENTARY OF 1 Corinthians 11 on HEAD COVERINGS The Apostle Paul spent the first four chapters of 1st Corinthians defending his apostleship given to him by the risen, Lord Jesus Christ.   Paul reminded the Corinthians that it was he who had begotten them through the gospel of Jesus Christ, and he told them to be followers of him as he followed Christ ( 4:15-16 ). He could say this because of his authority.   Paul spends the next two chapters (1 Corinthians
