When Jesus Speaks to Women - Part 7

Hello and welcome to the Women’s Weekly Bible Challenge! I’m Lisa Ann Spencer. Thank you for joining me once again.  Today is Part 7 of When Jesus Speaks to Women , and we will begin with the gospel of John. Grab your Bible, and a đź“”notebook or Journal for writing down scripture references. JOHN Click here to Read John 2:1-5 CONTEXT: This is the third day since John the Baptist declared that Jesus is the Lamb of God that taketh away the sin of the world (See 1:29 ). There is much symbolism happening in this passage, as it pertains to Jesus being made manifest to the nation of Israel as the sacrificial Lamb of God.  As I was studying this passage, I did word searches for “wine” combined with “wedding” or “marriage”.  I did not discover any direct connection; however, I did find three related scriptures. Matthew 26:29 and Luke 22:18 both record Jesus saying that he will not drink of the fruit of the vine, until His Father’s kingdom. Revelation 19:9 speaks of the mar

When Jesus Speaks to Women - Part 6

Hello and welcome to the Women’s Weekly Bible Challenge! I’m Lisa Ann Spencer. Today we continue in the book of Luke for Part 6 of our series on When Jesus Speaks to Women . Luke Chapter 13 Before we look at the next occurrence of Jesus speaking to a woman, I want to cover a very important parable in this chapter: Read Luke 13:6-9 For Context: This chapter begins with Jesus urging the nation of Israel to ‘repent’.  Repent in the Bible does not mean to stop sinning; it does not even mean to feel sorry for your sins.  Repent in scripture means to change your mind.  The first time the word is used in the Bible is Genesis 6:6 and it is the LORD who is repenting.  The LORD has no sin to turn from or to feel sorry for.  Jesus uses the word ‘YE’ in verses 3 and 5 when He urges repentance, because YE is plural and refers to the entire nation. The nation as a whole had to change their mind , acknowledge Jesus as Messiah, be water baptized and keep the law. In the Parable we just

WHEN JESUS SPEAKS TO WOMEN - PART 5

Hello and welcome to the Women’s Weekly Bible Challenge! I’m Lisa Ann Spencer. Today we jump into part 5 of When God Speaks to Women , by continuing our study in the book of Luke.   I remind you that some of the occurrences of Jesus speaking to women in Luke have already been covered in previous studies of Matthew and Mark.   We will only consider those that are unique to Luke’s gospel account. Last week we only looked at one passage in Luke, where Jesus speaks to His mother and Joseph, correcting His mother’s false words and useless sorrow as they searched for Jesus. Read Luke 7:11-17 JESUS RAISES THE DEAD CONTEXT:   The City of Nain has no other reference in the Bible, but Jesus had just left Capernaum the day before, so we know He is still ministering in northern Israel around the Sea of Galilee. We come to a dead, young man; which the scripture points out to us that he is the only son of a widow. If we read ahead in Luke 9:38 , Jesus casts a devil out of a young boy,

WHEN JESUS SPEAKS TO WOMEN - PART 4

Hello and welcome to the Women’s Weekly Bible Challenge !  I’m Lisa Ann Spencer. I’m glad you have joined me for part 4 of our series, When Jesus Speaks to Women . Today we will consider the book of Mark. MARK Two of the accounts of Jesus speaking to women have already been covered in our study in the book of Matthew : The woman with the issue of blood The Syrophoenician woman That leaves only one account in which Jesus speaks to a woman in the book of Mark.   But before we consider that passage, I hope you will click the link to read Mark 3:31-35 ( Compare Matthew 12:46-50) . In this passage, Jesus is in a house ( v. 19 ) somewhere near the Sea of Galilee ( v. 7 ).   He is addressing a crowd of His followers including men, women and children.   He is not directly addressing a woman in this passage, but it is of note because Jesus references His mother and His sister . In CONTEXT , which you will find by reading the whole chapter, there are 3 groups of people who h
