Thy Kinswoman Part 2 - Women's Weekly Bible Challenge

Hello and welcome back to the Women’s Weekly Bible Challenge ! I’m Lisa Ann Spencer.   In today’s lesson we will continue with our study of Thy Kinswoman which we began last week. Review:   Last week  we did a word study on AUNT, which we found in Leviticus chapter 18.   We established the context of the book of Leviticus first, and we discovered that it is a book of priestly laws spoken by God and given to the children of Israel through Moses.   We know today that we are not under the law (Romans 6:14). Q: If we are not under the law today, why do we need to read or study the law if it’s not written to us?   A: The answer to that comes from Jesus in John 5:39 Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me. All the scriptures will point us to Jesus. The scriptures that Jesus was referring to is Genesis to Malachi , which was available at the time of His earthly ministry. ...

Thy Kinswoman Part 1 - Women's Weekly Bible Challenge

Hello and welcome to the Women’s Weekly Bible Challenge! This is a Bible study Blog that focuses on Women in the Bible .   On of my goals in these studies is to help you understand how to study the Bible for yourself.  I issue a CHALLENGE at the end of each series, which I hope will help you learn how to do word studies, using your concordance. How do we accomplish WORD STUDIES ?   As the name suggests, we begin by choosing a word, or a topic.   Then we use a concordance to find where, when and how that word is used in Scripture.   It may also require finding a related word and searching for those as well. You may also like to use a THESAURUS or a DICTIONARY to help find related words.   Last week, we finished our series on Women Teaching , where we did a word study on every occurrence of women teaching in the Bible.   I offered up a new CHALLENGE to find the word “Aunt” in the scripture which will lead us to WISDOM , a ver...

Women Bible Teachers - Part 4

Welcome to the  Women’s Weekly Bible Challenge!  I’m Lisa Ann Spencer.   Thank you for joining me today as we conclude  Part 4 of the series on WOMEN TEACHING .   Let’s move forward to the final verse  in apostle Paul’s letters:   Titus 2:3-5   Let’s start in verse 1 and read the entire passage:  1 But speak thou  the things which become sound doctrine:  2 That the aged men be sober, grave, temperate, sound in faith, in charity, in patience. 3 That the aged women likewise , that they be in behaviour as becometh holiness, not false accusers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things: 4 That they may teach the young women to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their children, 5 To be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed. That last phrase always hits me like a hammer!  "That the word of God be not blasphemed."   By the...

Women Bible Teachers - Part 2

Welcome to Women’s Weekly Bible Challenge!  This is part two of the series on Women Teaching .  Grab a Bible, a notebook and a Cuppa. ⛾ Today’s blog is a continuation of last week’s lesson where we considered all the Old Testament references on women teaching .   I encourage you to check out that blog . Here’s a QUICK REVIEW of the main applications we made after considering each Old Testament verse on Women Teaching : 1. Proverbs 1:8 – a mother is expected to hold to and teach the word of God to her son. 2. Proverbs 31:1 – it is biblical for mothers to teach their son, even if he is a King. 3. Song of Solomon 8:2 – it is obvious that a mother would instruct her daughter. 4. Jeremiah 9:20 – it is biblical for mothers to teach their daughters and neighbors to believe God’s word. 5. Ezekiel 23:48 – scripture teaches all women not to behave lewdly. 6. Matthew 14:8 – the influence of a mother over her daughter can be used for evil. Today we will begin to look a...
